Introducing........ Christmas In July 2011 teacher - Sandra Staples

Hellooo…my name is Sandra Henderson Staples, (please call me San)

heres a bit about me….

I live on the sunny south coast of Australia, in Shellharbour, with my (all suffering) husband, Greg and my ( cute but now 11 and turning into his father)son, Thomas and an ever changing menagerie of animals, and a crazy combination family of wonderful people who I share life with.

I also own a scrapbooking shop in Dapto NSW, “Scrapbooking Delights”, where I escape to my happy place and create and share my passion for this craft with lots of great chicks. This craft has enabled me many wonderful new friends and experiences and I am having an absolute ball being involved in the industry.

I have been published in all the Aussie magazines many times and many times overseas too. I am currently on the Bella and WOW chipboard design teams. I love to share my experience and teach classes and have done numerous times in numerous places. I have been there, done that with many others too. I am also not driven too much by the ‘notoriety’ of this industry and am just enjoying the ride right now.

Although I will show-off the fact that I won 2nd prize at the Royal Easter Show for the second time! ( I will crack this first if it kills me! lol)

I am a very random scrapbooker, not one that likes to work with one particular range, I love to mix and match. I have no particular favorite techniques, just love to try new stuff!, and live by the old adage of keep adding then try a bit of black!

I have a very unhealthy owl obsession, (apparently)…and also don’t mind a drink, chocolate and really good belly laugh!..(oh yeh! I love to sing out loud, and have the worse voice ever!, and yet don’t care!!)

I look forward to spending the chrissy in july with you all…..and sharing many laughs, this I am sure of.

In July 2007 we held our very first Scrap Girls Christmas in July Getaway and we are so pleased that with each passing year this annual event gets bigger and better than ever.
Our July retreats are always jammed packed with classes, classes and more classes with resident Scrap Girls teachers as well as our "Special Guest" teacher. And because it's our special Christmas In July themed weekend there will be loads of Christmassy festivities to enjoy all weekend long.

For those of you lucky mums and daughters booked into our first Mother & Daughter retreat next weekend, we thought we would share with you some photos of the venue.

Here are our bunk room accommodation, sleeping up to 6/8 per room. But will will have a max of 4 (5 in two cases for the bigger groups)
I'm sure the girls will love sleeping on the top bunks:)

Girls Night In

So, this weekend we have our annual October Cropfest coming up, and what would our Cropfest be without our annual "Girls Night In" charity fundraiser.
The ladies always have the best time with some great challenges, games and our infamous raffles and auctions where all the money raised goes to a fantastic cause.

As from tomorrow, Wednesday 29th October I will be away on holidays and not getting back to all things Scrap Girls until Saturday 16th October.

May 2010 Cropfest wrap up

And we sadly say goodbye to another fantastic 4 night retreat....... but what a great time we had.

Thursday saw some of us eager beavers arrive ready to start scrapping away. Nic and I thought we would spend the night making fabric flowers which turned out to be a great little make and take for the ladies that came along for the extra night. Over the course of the weekend the fabric flowers became a huge hit and we had to repeat the demo a number of time...... we are so happy to share the knowledge:)
Friday was a busy day of scrapping and runs into the RIFF to spotlight to buy leaves and fabric. That evening saw the arrival of all the rest of the ladies and we were into the swing of things starting off with Bingo and some bargain shopping.
Saturday morning everyone was enjoying making Sami's "starburst" layout class. It was a huge hit. But Saturday is no resting day, there was games to be played, dressing up to be done, more bingo, prizes to giveaway and presents to be swapped.
Sunday is always a sad day, because we all have to eventually pack up and head back to the real world...... such a shame really after such a fun weekend.

Thank you to Sami for being a super fab teacher and for being ridiculously funny and keeping us all in stitches.

we are back from our MARCH CROPFEST 2010

By looking at these photo's it seems that there was not much scrapping going on over the weekend cause we were all to busy having too much fun!!!

We love our March Cropfests cause it's one of two 4 day/3 nights retreats that we hold each year. That extra day is so fantastic and we were lucky enough to have almost half our ladies join us for the extra third night.
Friday was a relaxing day of scrapping before the rest of our ladies arrived during the afternoon and into early evening. Then the madness was set to begin.
Saturday was a full day of demos, scavenger hunts and musical chairs of cause. But the weather was so hot we had to postpone till later in the day so no one past out with heat exhaustion with running around like 5 year olds. The evening was complete with a scrummy dinner by Belle and Tam and then onto nights activities like dressing up and 45 minute challenges.
Sadly our weekend had to come to an end but not before lots of prizes were handed out for some outstanding creations and voted on by our lovely ladies.

A HUGE thank you to Belle and Tam for some scrumptious culinary delights.
Thank you to Sami for being such a great part of the Scrap Girls team.
Thank you to Joh for being my pocket rocket and keeping me organized and for letting me annoy you with my snoring, lol.
Thank you to Cath and the LSBS girls for bringing yet another great shop along.

AND....... Thank you to all of the ladies for coming along and making our weekend unforgettable. We hope you had a fantastic time.

Merroo Conference Centre - Xmas in July 2010

Back at the start of August i attended the LSBS retreat at Merroo. This was my 4th stay at this particular venue - 2 being with LSBS and 2 being with past Scrap Girls retreats.

So with i was there i took some photos of the centre so you guys can get an idea of what the place is like ready for our stay there next year.

Our home for the weekend....... As you drive up the driveway of Merroo this is the first building you will see. Parking is around the back of the building and you can enter from the back too.

This is our dining room.

The sliding door there is the one you enter from at the back of the building.

Below is a mezzanine level where we will set up Creation Station tools etc.

Loads of room to spread out and if we still need more room we can utilise the mezzanine level too.

Yes the fire place will be lit and located on the scrapping level

The shop has it's own separate room and is located on the mezzanine level - this is only a half shot as i couldn't fit the whole shop in.

Arty Farty Angel Party retreat

Well it's not long now

On Saturday i met up with Jo & Rosey from 3 Angels Scrapping at the Collaroy Centre for a site visit. What can i say.......... it is just spectacular!

I cant wait to wake each morning in my twin share hotel style suite room, with those stunning views and enjoy a yummy cup of Creme Brule (from T2 of course) tea. OMG!!!! I'M EXCITED!!!

Then a short stroll down the path for breakie, still looking at those views over Long Reef and Collaroy. then i suppose i will have to go and scrap the day away, while still gazing over "those views".

Besides the views the centre is extremely modern with all the mod cons you could dream of for a perfect scrapping retreat. Great lighting, huge tables, heaps of room, easy access to all site amenities.

Jo & Rosey have put together some stunning classes kits which will be taught by their fabulous design team. As well as 3 class kits you will also receive:

* Cute calico bag for all your class kits

* A super generous Challenge kit with brand new product

Pictures from Stanwell Tops - CHRISTMAS IN JULY 2009

Today i headed down to Stanwell Tops to visit The Tops Conference Centre where we will be hold our Christmas In July Getaway.

Tracy met me there so we had 2 sets of eyes taking all the details so we can best plan our stay there.

What can i say? We were floored! The Boronia Lodge where we are staying is just............. glorious for lack of a better word. The bedrooms were huge, we reckon you could have a party in them with their own ensuites.

The outlook was just spectacular and if our weekend is anything like the day was today (perfect weather) we are going to have a great time. There is the cutest verandah off the scrapping room that can be enclosed for colder days with those clear plastic outdoor patio awning thingies, with little bistro tables so you can enjoy the bush and ocean views. I can just picture coffee out there already.

We have the choice of 2 scrapping rooms, so we have chosen the larger one and use the second one for the shop. We did consider breaking up the group so everyone could have heaps of room but we thought this may make some people feel isolated, plus it will make it harder to do the classes.

The rooms are fully reverse cycled air conditioned, so don't worry about being cold in the middle of winter.

There are a limited amount of rooms upstairs - where the scrapping rooms are. And the majority downstairs.

It is just a short stroll down the path to the dining room for our main meals. Supper, morning and afternoon teas are brought up to our lodge for us as well as tea and coffee making facilities. when i say short stroll, i mean about 50 metres , if that!

Don't be scared by the lodge being 2 stories!!! There is no need to panic about lugging all your scrapping supplies up stairs. I have arranged for one of The Tops staff to assist us using the buggy and trailer, so you can load up your supplies and they will drive it to the lodge at the top level. We can access from a drop off point downstairs too.

and last but not least, the bedrooms.

All the rooms are fairly similar, one even has a bath so i am open for bribes, lol

the ensuite is off to the right with the vanity in the middle which is open to the bedroom and at one end is the toilet and the other end is the shower.

Boronia has recently been renovated as it got fired damaged during the 2001 Christmas fires. The dining hall was completely lost and is brand new. Just a bit of trivia i found out today!

I am so excited about our stay at The Tops.

Scrap Girls is searching for a talented scrapbooking teacher to teach at future retreats. If you think that you have a distinctive creative flair and passion for sharing your style, then we want to here from you.

What is required of our Scrap Girls teachers:
* The weekend away with Scrap Girls
* Create a 2-3 hour class (product, theme, techniques etc chosen together with Scrap Girls team)
* Full step by step instructions for your class
* Additional “scraps” layout and instructions made with the scraps from your class
* 2 layouts from Challenge Kit
* Teaching of your class (other Scrap Girls teacher will provide help)
* Help during other teachers classes
* Help of weekend retreat activities
* Promotion of the retreat
Please Note: that our retreats are based out of Sydney, you would be required to provide your own transportation to the retreats venue

What you will receive as a teacher:
* All meals and accommodation for the duration of the whole retreat
* All products sent to you in advance for the creation of your class
* Discussions and input as to what products, type of class and techniques you want to teach in your class
* Challenge Kit
* Help from other Scrap Girls teachers during your class
* Promotion of your name/participation via newsletters and blog posts with links to your personal blog

Hi Everyone

As an Australian I am totally in awe of the generosity of our fellow countrymen.
Everywhere I have been this past week there has been some sort of collection for all those people in Victoria devastated by the fires.

Like most people, as a family we have donated money to the Red Cross to help, but feel this isn’t enough want to help more.
You’re inbox has probably filled up with emails of other ways to help just like mine. I have sifted through them and found 4 great ways to help and thought I’d pass them along to you. They are all very different and great ways that we as a scrapbooking community can help.

MEMORY GIFTS
Talented scrapper, Sarah Gladman has started an appeal for scrappers to create 12x12 layouts to give to those families affected to start rebuilding their memories.

PAMPER PACKS
Katrina Robertson, a Scrap Girls customer contacted me last night because she too feels the need to contribute in other ways.
Katrina came up with the idea of putting together Pamper Packs.
These pack could include :
Soap
Shampoo
Aftershave
Toothpaste
Hairbrush
Hairbands
Body lotion
Small toys (dolls, matchbox cars – so the kids don’t miss out either)
And any other pamper type items you think could be suitable.

The Victorian Pastor of the ACC (Australian Christian Churches or Assembly of God Church) lost their church in the fire and some members of their church.
This will be our starting point to distribute the packs as they also liaise with the chaplains in the area.

The team at Scrap Girls would love to help Katrina and am asking you to pick up an item or two when you visit COLES today (see below). I will collect the items on behalf of Katrina and deliver them to her so she can wrap them in cellophane and deliver to the people affected on behalf of us.
Tell your friends and family, school and sporting families, the more we get the better and more people we can give to.

Firstly we would like to say to everyone in Victoria affect by the fires that you are in our thoughts, our hearts, and our prayers. The tragic loss of life has been felt around the country, and the loss off homes and communities is overwhelming.

This Friday night is Cybercrop night at Little Scrapbook Shop, and that means challenges, bingo, chat and prizes. But more importantly we will be holding silent auctions to raise money for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

We hope that you will all join us on Friday night and over the weekend as we celebrate love and help raise some money to get our fellow Australians back on their feet.

In a media release on Monday 9th February the managing director of Coles, Ian Mcleod announced that all profits from it’s 750 stores (nationally) on Friday 13th February 2009 will be donated to the Governments Bushfire Appeal Fund in partnership with the Red Cross.
Customers can also donate to the fund at any Coles stores.

Coles has been helping ground level relief agencies over the weekend, providing essential food such as, water and toiletries, and will continue to provide additional local support as needed.

It’s not just people affected by this disaster, but animals too as we have seen by those images of the burnt Koala’s.
I received an email this morning from Kellyville Pets and thought this was a way to help those animals. Here is what it said.
Bushfire Appeal – Animal Aid
We have made some enquires about how we can help, and luckily came into contact with Animal Aid in Coldstream Vic. They are in desperate need of all types of pet food, so we are donating by dry & canned stock. We will also be collecting both dry & canned dog/cat food in store. We will be collecting donations over the next week, and then shipping it off to the shelter.

During the school holidays Tracy and I went out to have a site visit at Long Point Camp Conference Centre.
We loved it!!!!!!!
There is so much room and it's lovely and clean AND fully reverse cycle air conditioned!!! LURVE THAT
While we were there we took some photos to show you.
We have access to the entire venue on our retreat which includes the outdoor and indoor dining areas, kitchen, huge auditorium, meeting room, 4 cabins and 2 bunkhouses.

what a weekend

OMG!!! we had the most fantastic time at our Scrap Girls October 2008 Cropfest.

There was certainly loads of scrapping going on with everyone coming home with heaps of completed layouts and projects.

Friday we arrived to begin setting up in the massive gymnasium where everyone got a whole trestle table to themselves and we were able to spread out. There certainly wasn't any squishiness at this retreat. there were lots of old faces to reacquaint ourselves with and few new faces to get to know.

By Saturday morning all the getting to know you stuff was out of the way and everyone was like all friends. Crusaders certainly knew how to feed all us happy scrappers, there was so much yummy food it was ridiculous :)

Tracy, Anne and Kylie did some quick demos on the saturday morning and then it was back to scrapping up a storm.

We decided to hold a Girls Night In fundraising event on the Saturday night where we had some awesome prizes donated to us which we raffled off and auctioned off. The ladies were very generous with their donations and we raised $273 for this wonderful cause. WELL DONE LADIES!

In celebration of all things PINK we all dressed in pink at add to the fun and crazy atmosphere.

Sunday came upon us all so quickly and we ate some more. By this stage we were all stuffed that i dont think we could eat as much as we hoped too.

Most of us were on a mission to create, create, create on sunday. And boy! was there some serious projects being completed and some serious shopping to be done.

all that's missing is the last layout with the group photo, but i am still waiting to find a particular program to create silhouettes.

daylight goodness

my lovely star trac express delivery man arrived on my door step this morning with a big parcel for me. my kids had thought santa had come early and wanted to open everything.

but........ some Daylight goodness arrived.

For those ladies that ordered their Daylight lamps, bulbs and carry cases, i will have them ready and waiting for you at the retreat in 2 weeks time.

i can tell you now from personal experience they are FABO! you'll love them
